The Benefits of Olive Oil ~ Beauty Saturdays

As part of the New Year there are new additions to my growing blog. Today I’ll be sharing with everyone my research on the benefits of olive oil.

Daily people research new, natural and cheap ways to groom themselves. Olive oil does have many medical benefits but what I’m about to share with you guys is more along the lines of beauty.

Olive oil is a brilliant product that helps with your skin, hair and nails.

Skin.

When applied to the skin olive oil will penetrate deep and will last long as a moisturizer. It helps to keep the skin smooth. It can be used as either a night or daily moisturizer. When using it to moisturize your face a nickel size drop will do the trick. People recommend using extra virgin olive oil.

Another use of olive oil for the skin is that it is great for scars. Whether it is a cat scratch or acne scars, it will work to smooth and dull the colour of the scar.

Olive oil can also be used to help with removing make up.  Just take a cosmetic cotton pad and add some olive oil, gently pass it over your face. Repeat the action until the cotton pad isn’t picking up anymore make up. Your face will feel healthy and moisturized. You should use your regular face wash afterwards to take off the oil.

Many people suffer from the problem of having dry skin. Making a homemade exfoliator and using olive oil as one of the ingredients is a great idea. A homemade exfoliator will save money in the long run.

One recipe I plan on using is an “Olive Oil Sugar Scrub” I found on the  “Natural Skin Care Woman by Nature.” The recipe requires you to get 1/2 cup of sugar, white or brown are both fine, and 1/3 cup of olive oil. Put the sugar into a bowl or jar and slowly add the olive oil whiles mixing it until you get your desired consistency. You can use the scrub in the shower and also just on your face after steaming it with a warm wet cloth.

Nails.

Our nails go through quite a lot and after all that they need a bit of TLC. Olive oil is a great alternative cuticle treatment instead of going out and buying a cuticle treatment. You can just take a bit of olive oil and rub it on your nails beds. Do this and you will have healthier and stronger nails!

Hair.

Deep conditioning my hair is something I do weekly. With everything we put our hair through throughout the week our hair deserves some special treatment. You can warm some olive oil in a cup or bowl in a microwave but make sure it isn’t super hot because you don’t want to burn yourself. Start by putting your ends into the bowl and work your way up until all of your hair and scalp is covered. Put on a plastic shower cap and wait 10-15 minutes then shampoo. Lather the shampoo at your roots to get rid of the oil but try not to lather the ends too much because they will benefit from the oil.

New Year Resolutions

It’s finally 2013! I just want to take a moment to be grateful that I have seen another year. A New Year means a New Better me. I’ve come up with 10 Resolutions for the year that I think will allow me to be a better person.

1. Get honor roll with distinction every term.

2. Not give my mom so much attitude. As a teenager I really do struggle with this one, but my back talk isn’t getting me anywhere good.

3. Read 100 books. In 2011 I read about 60 books and last year, 2012, I read 88.

4. Be completely honest. I was always honest last year but sometimes I left things out so I wouldn’t get in trouble, this year will be different.

5. Write in my diary at least once a week to reflect and on my blog.

6. Say no more often. I think a lot of people have trouble with this one. I tend to say sure when I’d really prefer to just say no. It’s simple things like saying I don’t want to hang out this weekend. It’s necessary and it makes me feel better, more in control I guess.

7. Eat healthier. This one is difficult because I’m not someone who drinks a lot of soda, or eats a whole bag of chips. I rarely have soda and I hate chips. I think eating healthier is less about cutting out foods and more about adding in new, healthier choices.

8. Set monthly goals. Goals are the best way to move forward. A tick mark gives off a satisfying and motivating feeling.

9. Get to and stay at 125 lbs.

10. Be Happy.

I’m very happy that I got to share my 10 goals with you guys. Feel free to share yours with me via a comment.
